Aino-Kaisa Saarinen was the best second year running at the women’s 10 kilometres cross-country competition in Ruka. Russian Irina Khazova was second 13,1 seconds behind and third was Vibeke Skofterud from Norway.

Saarinen was fourth yesterday in women’s sprint. Today she improved to be number one.

“I was able to make my own race. My skis were very good, they sled well and traction was perfect. “

Second-placed Skofterud, who has always liked competing in Ruka.

“The route was very technical, and it suited me well.”

Virpi Kuitunen was not at her best. She was 19th because she had problems with her skis.
